The Challenge

If you've experienced problems such lower back pain, knee or leg problems, neck ache or sitting complaints, the bike set up and fitting process can determine adjustments to the set up of your bike that could make a vital difference.
Equally, if you're looking to buy a new bike, we will guide you towards bikes that will optimize your position and best suit your physique. A bike set up is free with any bike purchased and it's also a drop in the ocean when compared to the cost of a series of visits to an osteopath or physiotherapist!
Bike fitting and set up is an ongoing process where your body will change and adapt over time. To ensure maximum benefit we recommend that you ride in your new position for a few months and then revisit us for a follow-up check.
This helps us to improve your efficiency and power as well as keeping you injury free. Muscular tightness and/or weaknesses can cause sideways and rotating forces that reduce the power you can produce and also increase the stresses on joints. As such incorrect biomechanics limits your performance potential and increases the likelihood of injury.
If a rider's position is incorrect, the body will adapt to try and interact with the contact points. Often this leads to the body making compromises to make the position work (e.g. dropping the heels to extend the knee when the saddle's too low, flexing the spine to shorten the body on a bike that has too short a cockpit).
Everyday life can cause the body to adapt in sub optimal ways (e.g. extended periods of sitting can cause hip flexors to become short and tight etc.). Adjusting the bike to these adaptations only reinforces these movement patterns and does not challenge the body to change.
A bike fit adjusts the bike's contact points but is only 50% of the puzzle as it doesn't alter the learnt movement patterns that have been ingrained over many thousands of pedal revolutions. The body will adapt to new demands that are placed on it, therefore subjecting the body to specific exercises will force it to adapt to more biomechanically efficient movements, increasing power and efficiency while reducing injury risk.
